While In Lagos, Nigeria.

As we made our way through Murtala Mohammad Airport in Lagos, Nigeria on that hot and humid afternoon in October, I can't help but get excited about all the interesting places we had planned to visit around Lagos. Usually when I visit the Continent, I stayed put and only ventured out to see friends and family and may be occasional visit to market place to buy supplies for the house.

While still deep in my thought, a voice called out my name. I lifted my head up and recognised my uncle who came to the Airport to take us home in his minivan. After much hug and short Introduction, we were on our way home to Satellite Town.

After we had bathed, changed clothes and sat down to some delicious pounded yam, Egusi soup with goat meat and washed it down with Fanta, we decided to plan for the next day. Are you guys not tired asked my uncle's wife as she slowly packed away dirty dishes from the dining table. Yes we are answered my husband as he tilted his head to one side while yawning, by this time, our two children half asleep managed to find their way across my husband's lap and not long after, all I heard was snoring.

The next morning was bright and sunny and for the first time in a while I do not have to lift my fingers. My sister in law had bathed, feed and dressed the kids and they were playing with their cousins and nieces. After we had bathed, we had bean cake and cornmeal with tea prepared by my sister in law.

Around ten in the morning, we headed to Lekki Beach where my husband immediately ran to the water to wet his feet. I on the other hand had no desire to wet my feet but I walked to one of the many vendors selling roasted fish and knish Kaaba's. By this time, the children had took off their slippers and started playing with the white sand while my uncle keep watch.

We finally settled under a Cabana made with straws, a young waitress approached and asked if we are ready to order food and drinks. By this time four native drummers had found their way to us and were enticing us with native music. When our food and drinks arrived, we gave some money to the drummers and they happily moved on to the next people.

We decided to walk around and visit different site around Lekki Beach and to my amusement, each Cabana is totally different from the next. The foods were different, the entertainments ranges from African music, reggae, hip hop, pop music, blue and jazz, it depends on where you go.

The children were having fun also. They rode on a horse back around the beach shore, they played in  the water and collected sea shells. We watched as people young and old in their bathing suit and bikinis with no worries in their mind swam, played in the water and strolled along the beach. We watched Sail boats passed by, lovers holding hands and giggling and artists advertising their crafts. I bought necklaces made of Ivory and glass and some wooden statues and bangles.

When the evening descended, we decided to head home and knowing we will be hungry later, we stopped at Mr. Bigg's restaurant where I ordered fried rice and fried fish. Even though that was our second day in Lagos, we had planned  different adventure for the next day.
